Migration without Rights is Exploitation
IDWF at the International Migration Review Forum 2026

From May 3 to 8, the IDWF participated in the International Migration Review Forum (IMRF) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, joining governments, trade unions, migrant-led organizations, UN agencies, feminist movements, and civil society groups from around the world to review progress on the implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM). While the Forum presented challenges around meaningful participation of key stakeholders and civil society, and critical gaps remain in the Progress Declaration regarding workers’ fundamental rights to freedom of association and collective bargaining, IMRF 2026 still highlighted the growing strength of transnational organizing and the importance of building collective power across movements and regions. Throughout the week, the IDWF delegation participated in multistakeholder hearings, ILO side events, civil society forums, and care economy discussions, bringing the realities of migrant domestic workers into conversations that too often overlook domestic work and care labor. Across all spaces, we carried one central message: Migration without rights is exploitation. For us, IMRF was a great opportunity to ensure that our experiences, demands, and leadership are present in global migration discussions. Nothing about us without us!
