Centering Decent Work for Domestic Workers in the Care Economy

March 19 @ 2:30 pm EDT
There are 75.6M paid domestic workers worldwide who also fulfill the care needs of the global population. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the ILO estimated that 2.1 billion people needed care and warned of a “care crisis” if not adequately addressed. The pandemic accelerated this crisis, deepening pre-existing gender inequalities and norms and putting unprecedented stress on our already overburdened care systems.

This parallel event will provide an opportunity to hear from domestic workers leaders, policy makers and officials who will explore what it means to implement ILO’s five Rs framework through policies while centering decent work in the care economy.
