It is with great pleasure that we announce our Africa Regional Coordinator, Vicky Kanyoka, has been appointed as the first Assistant General Secretary (AGS) of the IDWF, in accordance with Constitutional Amendment Art 12.F approved at the 2023 IDWF 4th Congress.
Vicky has a long history of working for the IDWF and the global domestic workers’ movement since 2010, when our federation was still a network. Since then, Vicky has led the African region together with our first President, Myrtle Witbooi, and together they have built the region into the largest one in the IDWF, with 28 affiliated unions in 28 countries.
“Mama Vicky,” as she is affectionately called by all domestic worker leaders, has earned respect for her dedication and the work she has done with our leaders, whom she has empowered and mentored. Over the years, she has demonstrated unwavering commitment and strong union ethics to elevate the power and representation of domestic workers on the ground. Vicky has also mentored colleagues and IDWF organizers in other regions.
“It is great to consider people you are working with and around, and that will make you happy. Always try to do it collectively, not personally.”
Vicky Kanyoka
Join us in welcoming and congratulating Vicky in her new role within our Federation and recognizing her hard work with the IDWF. Let us offer her all our support and collaboration!
