Stop all Human Rights Violations & Abuses against Rohingya Women and Young Girls; Ensure safe return and citizenship of all Rohingya refugees
Thousands of Rohingya women and young girls have been raped and killed since August 2017. Reports reveal that they are committed by the army and police of your government. This is outrageous, shameful and must be stopped immediately.
The International Domestic Workers Federation is a global organization of domestic workers. It consists 67 domestic workers unions in 54 countries, representing over 600,000 domestic workers, majorities are women. Many of us are migrants, young girls, from ethnic minorities and other marginalized communities. We hear the plights of the Rohingya women and young girls and feel their agonies.
Since August last year, the world has been witnessing the brutality and severe violation of humanity by the Myanmar army, resulting in nearly 700,000 Rohingyas refugees to Bangladesh and other countries. Over a thousand men, women and children were killed. Women and girls are raped and abducted. A report by the United Nations Office of Human Rights refer to the massacre as “brutal, well-organized, coordinated and systematic attacks by the Myanmar security forces. Despite the many calls from the international communities, the violence and brutality persists.
We, affiliates of the IDWF in Asia stand with the Rohingya women and young girls to demand your government to:
- Immediate stop all human rights violations to Rohingyas and any other ethnicity, especially the women and young girls;
- To investigate the violations – including allowing independent investigations by UN agencies and the mass media and bring those who are responsible to justice,
- To collaborate with UN and international agencies to provide humanitarian support to the Rohingya refugees, especially the women and young girls and
- To continue talks with the Bangladesh governments to ensure Rohingyas’ voluntary repatriation to their original own home place in Myanmar with full dignity, a decent livelihood and citizenship.
