We join our voices in solidarity to defend democracy, peace, and human rights for the brotherly people of Bolivia, particularly with our fellow domestic workers.
The IDWF and the CONLACTRAHO commend the swift action taken by the Plurinational State of Bolivia to address the attempted military coup, which the international community has witnessed through various media outlets. In this regard, we reject this and any measures that attempt to undermine democratic institutions and the will of the Bolivian people, who freely chose their representatives.
We also call for dialogue among all democratic forces in Bolivia; it is necessary for their commitment and firmness with democratic values to overcome this situation with social peace and unity. Democracy guarantees respect for the Constitution, legal procedures, and the security of its citizens.
As international and Latin American organizations representing women domestic workers, we reaffirm our commitment to democracy as a space that creates conditions to fight for and ensure the guarantee of workers’ rights, particularly their fundamental rights such as freedom of work, freedom of association, and equality and non-discrimination.
In this context, we remind that decent work is conceived and realized in democracy, which allows for the well-being of workers, families, and society.
