IDWF at the AWID Forum 2016

In September, IDWF had a delegation of 9 people participating in the Association of Women in Development Forum in Bahia, Brazil. This conference takes place every four years. The theme of the Forum was ‘Feminist Futures’ and it brought together a diverse array of feminist and women’s rights organisations, workers’ organisations, LBTI groups, and indigenous and peasant organizations.

In September, IDWF had a delegation of 9 people participating in the Association of Women in Development Forum in Bahia, Brazil. This conference takes place every four years. The theme of the Forum was ‘Feminist Futures’ and it brought together a diverse array of feminist and women’s rights organisations, workers’ organisations, LBTI groups, and indigenous and peasant organizations.  The plenary and panel discussions gave space to each of these different groups to share their experiences and visions for the future.

IDWF led two workshops:

1/ Domestic Workers Organizing Across Nationality and Ethnicity Lines

In many places, domestic work is still one of the few available job options for women from ethnic minorities and migrants, including the undocumented. Domestic workers issues and needs are multidimensional and multifaceted. In this session, experiences are shared from Asia, Europe and Latin America and on how the sector has come together to form organizations.

2/ Domestic Workers Reclaiming Rights and Justice through Collective Power

Domestic workers are using the ILO C189 to push for their rights and justice. In this session IDWF Executive Committee members and Coordinators share their experiences in organizing, building alliances and founding the IDWF to achieve their goals.
