Argentina –

In Argentina, on October 7, a tri-partite agreement to prevent gender-based violence against domestic workers was signed by the Ministry of Women, the Housewives’ Union of the Argentine Republic, SACRA and the Auxiliary Personal Union of Private Houses, UPACP, an IDWF affiliate.

“The care sector is a sector that has historically struggled against the enormous invisibility and informality in its work and it seems to us that all labor rights must be fully included in the work for gender equality.  For us, working with trade union organizations is fundamental ”, said the Minister after the signing of the act of commitment.

“It seemed important to us on the day of recognition of decent work to sign this agreement with two sectors that are so important that carry out care,” the Director of Equity Policies, Labor Training and Care Policies highlighted.

The agreement covers 5 areas of work: promotion of women’s leadership and sexual diversity in union organizations;  advance in a job without harassment and without violence;  recognize the relationship between care policies and work-family co-responsibility;  reduction of labor gaps;  and working with particular sectors such as the migrant, rural and indigenous population.

In this sense, the General Secretary of SACRA María Lucila “Pimpi” Colombo stressed that “that they have begun to talk about our task is very important” while stressing that “construction is collective and the unions in Argentina have been able  to build a permanent struggle within the framework of a National project ”.

Finally, the General Secretary of UPACP Lorenza Gómez thanked the joint work and stated that she was “very happy and satisfied with all the comrades for the struggle we are making to be able to move forward with this agreement.”

“I congratulate the Ministry of Women for accompanying the UPACP; For the recognition of the sector of domestic workers or Private Houses as a care sector – a sector with rights”, said Carmen Britez, Secretary of UPACP.
