IDWF Regional Coordinator – Latin America (Full Time)

The International Domestic Workers Federation (IDWF) seeks to hire a Regional Coordinator to strengthen the organizations of the IDWF affiliates (domestic workers’ organizations/trade unions) in Latin America to achieve labour rights and decent work for domestic workers.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Knowledge of trade unionism and domestic workers issues in the region
  • Experienced working and supporting movement building democratic processes
  • Strong popular education skills and experience as community/labor organizer 
  • Solid understanding of anti-oppression methodologies, gender based violence, womens’ rights, and workers rights
  • At least 5 years relevant working experience, ideally, in working directly with domestic workers, women and workers groups
  • Proven management experience and team player oriented
  • Motivated, proactive and self starter 
  • Excellent communication skills – oral and written
  • Ready to travel in the region and internationally and work with people of diverse culture and backgrounds
  • Strong commitment to the protection and defense of domestic workers rights and gender equality
  • Must be fluent in Spanish and English, both oral and written.  Portuguese is an asset. 
  • Strong project proposal writing and reporting

Main Roles and responsibilities:

  • To develop, coordinate and execute on programs of activities for domestic workers leadership formation and capacity building of their organizations
  • To develop strategic advocacy campaigns at national and regional levels
  • To develop strategies for alliances building with a high diversity of stakeholders and partner
  • To develop strategies for base and leadership building for domestic workers unions in the region 
  • To inform the IDWF on development of policy and legal changes in the region, particularly those impacting domestic workers;
  • To represent the IDWF at meetings of its affiliates, allies or partner organizations as required
  • To lead regional thematic digital campaigns on key priorities for unions
  • The Regional Coordinator supervise Program Officers in the region and reports to General Secretary 

Working hours and location

  • 40 hours per week, able to work a flexible schedule, e.g. during evening, weekends and public holiday, subject to the scheduling of activities and needs of organizations.
  • This position is to work remotely based in the country where the person resides but within the Latin America region
