IDWF Regional Coordinator – Middle East and North Africa (Full Time)

The International Domestic Workers Federation (IDWF) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Regional Coordinator to lead our efforts in strengthening the capacity of our affiliate organizations (domestic workers’ organizations and trade unions) across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The MENA region is one of IDWF’s seven global regions, and this pivotal role will be instrumental in advancing labor rights and securing decent work for the millions of domestic workers in the region. Currently, IDWF has three affiliates in three countries, and we work collaboratively with various domestic worker groups and partners throughout the MENA region, primarily Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain, Lebanon . Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, coordinate, and execute programs and activities at the national and regional levels
  • Spearhead strategic advocacy campaigns at the national and regional levels
  • Devise strategies for building alliances with a diverse range of stakeholders and partners
  • Develop strategies to strengthen the base and leadership of migrant domestic workers’ unions in the region
  • Keep IDWF informed about policy and legal developments in the region, especially those impacting domestic workers
  • Represent IDWF at meetings with affiliates, allies, and partner organizations as required
  • Lead regional thematic campaigns on key priorities for the unions
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to the region’s political dynamics and conduct thorough risk assessments to guide IDWF’s work
  • Supervise Program Officer in the region and report to the IDWF General Secretary and Assistant General Secretary

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Strong commitment to protecting and defending the rights of domestic workers and promoting gender equality
  • Expertise in trade unionism, migrant justice organizing and domestic workers’ issues in the MENA region
  • Strong grassroots migrant justice organizing ethics and experience on the ground. Solid understanding of anti-oppression methodologies, gender-based violence, women’s rights, and workers’ rights
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience, preferably with direct engagement with migrant workers groups, and labor organizations
  • Proven management experience and strong project proposal writing and reporting skills
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and a team player with excellent communication skills (oral and written)
  • Fluency in English is required; proficiency in French and Arabic is highly desirable
  • Willingness to travel within the region and internationally, and work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds

Working hours and location

  • 40 hours per week, able to work a flexible schedule with its own equipment and stable internet, e.g. during evening, weekends and public holiday, subject to the scheduling of activities and needs of organizations.
  • Have a valid visa to work in the MENA region, preferably based in Lebanon or Jordan
  • This is a remote position, but the candidate must reside within the MENA region and have access to reliable internet and necessary equipment to perform the job effectively
