The International Domestic Workers Federation (IDWF) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Program Officer to lead our efforts in strengthening the capacity of our affiliate organizations (domestic workers’ organizations and trade unions) across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The MENA region is one of IDWF’s seven global regions, and this pivotal role will be instrumental in advancing labor rights and securing decent work for the millions of domestic workers in the region. Currently, IDWF has three affiliates in three countries, and we work collaboratively with various domestic worker groups and partners throughout the MENA region, primarily Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain, Lebanon . Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the programs and activities of IDWF affiliates in the MENA region
- Provide training and build the organizing and advocacy capacity of domestic workers
- Strengthen the leadership capacity of migrant domestic worker organizations
- Facilitate knowledge-sharing and learning opportunities among migrant domestic worker leaders in the region
- Lead the planning and logistics for regional workshops, forums, and other gatherings
- Assist the project management tasks, including data gathering and reporting
- Coordinate and execute regional campaigns on key priorities identified by the groups
- Collaborate with the IDWF global communications team to highlight worker stories and support leader participation in global webinars
- Support the Regional Coordinator in gathering information and data for concepts notes, project proposals and project reporting
- The Program Officer reports directly to the Regional Coordinator and ultimately to the General Secretary.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Solid understanding of anti-oppression methodologies, gender-based violence, women’s rights, and workers’ rights
- Knowledge of trade unionism and issues affecting migrant domestic workers in the MENA region
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with domestic worker unions and groups
- Experience in community/labor organizing and grassroots processes
- Strong grassroots migrant justice organizing ethics and eExperience on the ground
- At least 3 years of relevant experience working directly with women’s and migrant workers’ groups
- Proven event planning and logistics coordination skills
- Team player with the capacity to work independently
- Knowledge of project and financial management, and reporting
- Proactive, self-motivated, and ability to problem-solve and troubleshoot effectively
- Fluency in English is required; proficiency in French and/or Arabic is highly desirable
- Willingness to travel within the region and internationally, and work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds
Working hours and location
- 40 hours per week, able to work a flexible schedule with its own equipment and stable internet, e.g. during evening, weekends and public holiday, subject to the scheduling of activities and needs of organizations.
- Must have a valid visa to work in the MENA region, preferably based in Qatar
- This is a remote position, but the candidate must reside within the MENA region and have access to reliable internet and necessary equipment to perform the job effectively
