IDWF is looking for a Digital Communications Officer:

Are you a dynamic multilingual journalist who wants to contribute to social, labor, and gender justice?

The International Domestic Workers Federation (IDWF) seeks to hire a media officer with international journalistic experience to build the visibility of domestic workers’ organizing. S/he will collect news from our global membership, identify stories, write press releases, and support op-ed development. The candidate needs to be curious, energetic, and comfortable developing and delivering regular media roundups and pitches. S/he will be working with the communications’ team.

Key objectives

  • To develop campaign materials according to our advocacy plans
  • To increase the visibility of domestic workers amongst workers organizations, policy makers and the public to encourage recognition, support and the development of favorable policy positions.
  •  To facilitate the representation of domestic workers in mainstream media.

What the role includes

  • Design flyers, GIFs, infographics, and other visual materials for dissemination via social media
  • Edit and subtitle video/audio interviews
  • Develop and manage organic and paid content on our social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn)
  • Pull key messages and develop social media kits for new publications, blogs, and campaigns
  • Regularly report key metrics on growth, engagement, and impact of IDWF social media and email marketing efforts.

Eligibility

  • Higher education (or equivalent experience) in a related field such as Journalism, Communications Arts or Social Sciences.
  • 3+ years of social media content production, preferably for a non-profit, union or workers’ organization.
  • Experience managing social media sites, including use of Hootsuite, Trello, paid social media ads and analysis of social media campaigns.
  • Strong audio-visual production skills
  • Oral and written fluency of English
  • Good command of Spanish and/or French

The ideal candidate is

  • A good communicator, with a proven track record of digital campaigning.
  • Experienced in adobe, Content Management System (CMS), and other audiovisual software.
  • Experienced using Photoshop, Canva or other graphic design tools.
  • Experienced with Mailchimp or other programs for e-newsletter production.
  • Able to work with a diverse and international group of staff and affiliates.

The probation period is 6 months.
