Position Summary
To strengthen the strategic and developmental capacity of the International Domestic Workers Federation (IDWF), this role will support the General Secretary in managing and aligning the work of the Project and Communications teams, ensuring coherence across regions and maximizing the impact of IDWF’s global initiatives. This position will lead the development and implementation of a results-oriented strategy that integrates project coordination, impactful communications, and robust monitoring, learning and evaluation (MLE systems). With a focus on supporting program implementation, fundraising, and knowledge-sharing, the role will help IDWF document and articulate its achievements –from grassroots organizing to policy advocacy– while ensuring that its work is grounded on evidence and is aligned with IDWF’s strategic priorities and mission and to communicate effectively to diverse audiences, donors and members.
Roles and Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership and Coordination
- Provide strategic support to the General Secretary in overseeing and aligning the work of the Project and Communications teams to ensure coherence, efficiency, and alignment with IDWF’s mission, strategic priorities and congress resolutions
- Coordinate the planning, implementation, and monitoring of cross-regional and cross-functional initiatives, ensuring collaboration across teams and consistency in delivery.
- Supervise and support the Communications team (Media Officer and Digital Communications Officer), ensuring clear workplans, regular check-ins, and alignment with broader organizational goals.
- Work closely with the Projects Manager to strengthen coordination with regional teams, improve internal systems, and streamline project execution across regions.
- Serve as a liaison between technical teams (Comms, MLE, Finance) and regional/national teams, facilitating communication, accountability, and shared learning.
- Contribute to IDWF’s organizational development by identifying capacity needs and supporting training, mentoring, and systems-building initiatives across teams.
- Represent the General Secretary and/or IDWF in relevant meetings or partnerships where strategic leadership, coordination, or donor engagement is required.
Project and Program Management Support
- Provide coordination and strategic support to the Project team in the implementation of IDWF’s global programs and campaigns, ensuring alignment across regional priorities and thematic areas.
- Support the planning, tracking, and documentation of IDWF’s multi-country projects, ensuring activities are implemented on time, within budget, and according to agreed deliverables.
- Facilitate cross-team and cross-regional collaboration by organizing regular planning and review meetings, and by maintaining clear communication flows between teams and the General Secretary.
- Coordinate the preparation of project workplans, timelines, and internal updates in collaboration with project leads and regional coordinators.
- Document key lessons, challenges, and opportunities emerging from program implementation, and ensure they inform future planning, communications, and fundraising efforts.
- Liaise with the Finance team to ensure budget alignment with project activities and timelines, and to support timely reporting.
- Contribute to donor reporting by gathering and synthesizing programmatic information and impact stories, in close collaboration with relevant staff.
Monitoring Learning and Evaluation (MLE)
- Design and manage the execution of a systematic monitoring framework to assess IDWF’s impact and effectiveness at local, regional, and global levels.
- Formulate and implement IDWF’s MLE strategy in alignment with organizational objectives, programmatic goals, and donor requirements.
- Provide actionable recommendations and support for data analysis, interpretation, presentation, and results reporting, ensuring findings are accessible and relevant for diverse audiences.
- Promote the regular dissemination and utilization of data across teams to foster evidence-based decision-making, offering technical guidance for programmatic evaluations.
- Document and synthesize learnings from IDWF activities to support strategic planning, donor reporting, and communications.
- Support project and regional teams in integrating outcome-based approaches to capture change processes and worker-led impact.
- Coordinate periodic reflection and learning sessions across teams and regions to surface strategic insights and support adaptive management.
Communications and Visibility
- Develop and implement a comprehensive internal and external communications strategy that strengthens IDWF’s visibility, reinforces its mission, and supports its advocacy, fundraising, and programmatic objectives.
- Lead organization-wide communication efforts, ensuring coherence across regions and alignment with IDWF’s core messages and values.
- Build and maintain a strong organizational brand identity, ensuring consistency and integrity across all platforms and communications materials.
- Collaborate with the Project and Regional teams to co-create advocacy and campaign messages for key platforms such as the UN Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW), the International Labor Conference (ILC), and others.
- Support staff, regional coordinators, and board members to strengthen their communications and messaging skills through training and mentorship.
- Oversee the planning, production, design, and distribution of IDWF publications, digital content, and promotional materials, in close collaboration with the Communications team.
- Support joint communications efforts with partner organizations and donors, ensuring IDWF’s contributions are visible and valued in broader coalitions.
Fundraising and Donor Engagement
- Support the General Secretary and relevant teams in identifying new funding opportunities and cultivating relationships with donors aligned with IDWF’s mission and priorities.
- Contribute to the design and development of funding proposals and concept notes, working closely with project teams to ensure alignment with strategic objectives and evidence of impact.
- Support the drafting and coordination of donor reports, ensuring timely submission, accuracy, and clear articulation of outcomes and learning.
- Gather and package data, stories, and results from across IDWF programs and regions to strengthen communications with current and prospective donors.
- Collaborate with the Finance and Operations teams to ensure donor budgets are aligned with program goals and reporting requirements.
- Contribute to the development of IDWF’s fundraising strategies, including grassroots and digital fundraising campaigns in coordination with the Communications team.
Qualifications
- A strong commitment to protecting and defending the rights of domestic workers and promoting gender equality.
- A Master’s degree or higher in International Politics, Social Science, Public Policy, Evaluation, or a related discipline.
- At least 5 years of relevant work experience in communication, monitoring, and evaluation systems within international contexts.
- Proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks independently in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
- International experience and cultural sensitivity, with a track record of managing initiatives in resource-limited international settings.
- Willingness to travel internationally as required.
- Fluency in English is required; proficiency in French or Spanish is a must.
Working hours and location:
- 40 hours per week and the ability to work a flexible schedule, which may occasionally include evenings, weekends, and public holidays, depending on the scheduling of activities and the needs of the organization. The IDWF offers compensation leave in lieu of overtime.
- This is a remote position. The candidate must have access to reliable internet and necessary equipment to perform the job effectively
Reporting Structure:
- This position supervises the Media Officer and the Digital Communications Officer
- This position provides support to the Project Team, including Project Manager and Project Support Officers
- This position works closely with the Secretariat team: Assistant General Secretary, Project Manager, Operations Manager and Finance Manager
- This position reports directly to the General Secretary
