IDWF is looking for a media officer

Are you a dynamic multilingual journalist who wants to contribute to social, labor, and gender justice?

The International Domestic Workers Federation (IDWF) seeks to hire a media officer with international journalistic experience to build the visibility of domestic workers’ organizing. S/he will collect news from our global membership, identify stories, write press releases, and support op-ed development. The candidate needs to be curious, energetic, and comfortable developing and delivering regular media roundups and pitches. S/he will be working with the communications’ team.

Key objectives

  • To facilitate the flow of information amongst domestic workers globally, to document and promote their work.
  • To increase the visibility of domestic workers amongst workers organizations, policy makers and the public to encourage recognition, support and the development of favorable policy positions.
  •  To facilitate the representation of domestic workers in mainstream media.

What the role includes

  • Provide regular news roundups on issues related to domestic workers and IDWF affiliates around the world.
  • Maintain and build relationships with journalists in mainstream media outlets.
  • Share IDWF research and advocacy materials with press and other external bodies, during campaigns as and when appropriate.
  • Pitch stories related to domestic workers and IDWF’s goals.
  • Identify speaking opportunities, panel discussions, and media interviews for IDWF and domestic worker leaders.
  • Issue press releases and statements.
  • Report on the impact of media and campaigning by contributing to monitoring and evaluation.

The ideal candidate

  • Fluent in English (written and spoken), good command of Spanish is a competitive advantage
  • Has a degree in communications or journalism (or equivalent experience) and 5 years of relevant experience.
  • connected to an international network of journalists
  • committed to workers, women, and human rights.
  • Experienced in pitching to online and traditional media outlets.
  • Experienced with monitoring and evaluating media outputs.
