IDWF is looking for a researcher to carry out the mapping research on domestic workers organizations -  groups/associations/trade unions of domestic workers which are largely not affiliated to traditional trade union structures in the following target countries:

  • France, Italy, Spain, Sweden and Denmark         

The structured quantitative mapping research will encompass the following:

  • Covering as comprehensive as possible domestic workers organizations (trade unions, associations, NGOs, groups) in EU Member States (and some beyond) with basic information about the organizations
  • If the organizations are not trade unions: what is the relationship to the trade unions in the country
  • What are the organizing practices of the organizations?  
  • What are the burning problems in the respective country for domestic workers?
  • How are the organizations addressing the problems?
  • Specific areas of problems in times of COVID-19 pandemic, including changes in operating 

The researcher is expected to travel to the focus countries, depending on the situation of the COVID-19 pandemic for interviews, meetings and other activities connected to the research.

Expertise required

Candidates should meet the following requirements:

  • Experiences in carrying out surveys in an international/European context
  • Familiarity with/ experience
    • In the domestic work sector
    • With gender issues
    • With regard to informal workers
    • With regard to trade unions
    • With regard to migrant issues
    • Excellent writing and researching skills, ability and willingness to carry out a review of existing research and knowledge on the topic
    • Ability to collect, process, document and elaborate primary information relevant to the objectives of the survey by approaching and communicating with a variety of relevant stakeholders, including workers, trade union officials etc.
    • Ability to deliver sound methodology, reports, valuable analysis, solid conclusions and practical, original recommendation in a clear and concise English
    • Ability in operate in a multi-national and multi-cultural context
    • Being able to conduct interviews and operate in the following languages (including written communication): English and Spanish.  Additional language skills in Italian would be an advantage. 

Time schedule and reporting

The contract will start no later than 1 February 2021. The end of the contract will determined by the accomplishment of all tasks, not later than December 15, 2021.

Payment 

The researcher will receive an advance and a final payment of the total amount of daily fees.

Travel and accommodation, as deemed necessary by IDWF, will be covered by the grant agreement.

Content and presentation of the bids

The bid should include:

  • Research methodology
  • Time table for the execution of the contract and the number of performance days
  • CV(s) and references demonstrating the expertise and the experience of the tenderer
  • Daily fee (VAT excluded and VAT included, indicating the applicable VAT rate) and the total price of the bid
