The Senate has taken a big step forward toward immigration reform. The bill they passed contains a road map to citizenship for millions of families – including domestic workers. Thanks to the efforts of women around the country, and the leadership of women members of the Senate, it includes unprecedented, important measures to safeguard and include women, workers and families.

Domestic workers do the work that makes all other work possible. Mostly women, they are vital part of our families, communities and economy. Our immigration laws have kept the workforce trapped in the shadows. This is a moment to transform that reality, to fully welcome the many people who make our nation what it is today, so that they may continue to strengthen us toward the future.

As this process moves forward, the leadership and voices of women will be critical to ensuring the visibility of the many stories of people whose futures are at stake. We still have work to do and I hope you'll join us to improve the bill and and pass a similar comprehensive bill in the House, but today, this outcome in the Senate is worth celebration. This vote for immigration reform is a vote for love, family and the future.
