Sixteen year-old Maria Esther Sanchez highlights why her mother, a domestic worker and member of Latino Union in Chicago, and all domestic workers mothers deserve to be celebrated on Mother’s Day with a domestic workers bill of rights in Illinois.
"In granting legal equality to domestic workers, the Domestic Workers Bill of Rights will grant them dignity and respect. My mother deserves this. So do the tens of thousands of other Illinois mothers who are domestic workers."

Ai-jen Poo argues that it’s time to right the wrong of the historic exclusion of domestic workers by recognizing the Department of Labor home care ruling. Domestic workers around the country pressure state Governors to ensure minimum wage and overtime for home care workers.
“It's fundamentally a question of fairness for both workers and employers in today's economy: fairness for this workforce that has faced exclusion for far too long, and a level playing field for employers who actually pay a fair wage."
