USA -

It’s not often that we pause to recognize the love, courage, and hope that makes our movement possible, but as hundreds of domestic workers, employers, and allies gathered to Speak Out for Domestic Workers Rights in California and across the country Sunday April 1st, we did!

For several hours on Sunday, the Nate Holden Theatre in Los Angeles was filled with songs, chants, and inspiring stories from the domestic workers whose labor makes all other work possible.

Together, we were united in our vision of a better future for all domestic workers — a future where all domestic work is recognized and protected. As Aquilina Soriano Versoza, of the Pilipino Worker's Center said about our growing movement for rights and recognition in California, “We will not bow down.”

Sunday’s event at the Nate Holden Theatre demonstrated the growing power of our movement in California and the country. On the national stage this week, TIME Magazine recognized the courage, love, and hope of the domestic workers movement, announcing that NDWA director Ai-jen Poo is in the running for the 2012 TIME 100, their annual roster of the 100 most influential people in the world.
