Secretary of the National Assembly, MP Kamel Al-Awadhi, stressed on Dec 22 the importance of expediting the establishment of a company concerned with the employment of domestic workers. He said Kuwaiti families are continuously suffering domestic-worker related problems that incur huge amounts of money due to the manipulations and exploitations of recruitment companies.

Al-Awadhi said that those companies exploit the weakness of current domestic labor laws and urged the establishment of a domestic-labor office, a project that was earlier approved by all concerned authorities. He added that the company may provide much needed solutions and eliminate the negatives of hiring domestic labor by, for example, training workers in their home countries before recruitment in order to protect the rights of both employers and employees.

Meanwhile, MP Saleh Ashour said that the parliament’s Foreign Affairs committee will review international memorandums of understanding approved by the previous assembly beginning Sunday. He added that the committee will also review the recently established GCC security agreement when it is received by the assembly. He noted that, based on his information, the deal has not been officially approved to date.
