
Italy: DOMINA Conference "The Impact of Domestic Work in the Countries of Origin"

On June 25, Wendy Galarza, IDWF EXCO, presented in the DOMINA Conference "The Impact of Domestic Work in the Countries of Origin". She stressed on the importance of a secure worker support network and the precious value of domestic work.
Attendees of the conference included domestic workers, representatives of governments from Philippines, Peru, Ecuador, Moldavia and Romania as well as the Mayor of Rome, Virginia Raggi.
A research study "The Socio-Economic Impact of Domestic Work in the Countries of Origin" was presented. This study mainly analyzes four large groups of domestic workers in Italy. They are from Romania, Moldavia, Ukraine and the Philippines whose contribution are generally undervalued.
In collaboration with ILO and IDWF, DOMINA has launched an initiative "Fair Recruitment" which is to disseminate correct information to domestic workers planning to work in Italy and to make sure the workers would be on safe migration paths.
