BRAZIL -

In September, the National Federation of Domestic Workers (FENATRAD) in Brazil held its XI National Congress in Rio de Janeiro with the theme "Ratification of Convention 189, Equal Rights and Organization of Domestic Workers in World." 13 unions of domestic workers from different parts of the country make up this Federation.

During the Congress, participants discussed issues on the current situation in the country and the rights won with the law 150/2015, occupational health, organizing in unions, as well as the revision of its statutes. Another topic of discussion was the affiliation of FENATRAD to IDWF, which was approved by unanimous vote.

Democratically elections were held, and a national council of 3 members (President, General Secretary and Treasurer) and 9 directors of the regions was selected.

In their plans, FENATRAD agreed to conduct exchanges to support other unions who have fallen behind due to lack of resources, to continue their work for ratification of Convention 189, and to strengthen their bases.

Maria del Carmen Cruz, General Secretary of CONLACTRAHO, Elizabeth Tang, IDWF General Secretary, and Marcelina Bautista, IDWF Regional Coordinator for Latin America were invited to the Congress.
