The wages of domestic caretakers and house workers have never been adjusted since 1997. Although the minimum wage has been raised to NTD 19,273, they still keep low wage level of NTD 15,840-without continuous rest period, holidays, independent private spaces, labor insurance, right to freedom of movement or a life away from work life.

Today, the former employer of Erwiana Sulistyaningsih was sentenced to 6 years of imprisonment and fined HKD 15,000 for her abusive treatment of Erwiana during the seven months she worked for her in 2013. We are pleased that finally justice is being upheld and Erwiana is now free to return to her normal life. "We admire her for being so courageous and bold in telling her story to everyone to pursue justice which is so important not only to her personally but also to all domestic workers in Hong Kong and worldwide. She is an inspiration to all domestic workers," said Elizabeth Tang, General Secretary of IDWF.

The final report of the EFFAT study “Promote industrial relations in the domestic work sector in Europe”, co-financed by the European Commission, is contributed by 27 trade unions, 9 employers’ associations and 6 migrant/domestic workers’ organisations from 15 European countries to the research on legislation, trade union organising, employers’ structures, social dialogue and collective agreements in the domestic work sector. For the first time in Europe, we have a general overview of how service voucher systems work, what is in collective agreements for domestic workers, etc.
