Domestic Workers and their Children
According to the 5th ILO report monitoring the impact of COVID-19 on the world of work, the Latin America and the Caribbean is the region experienced the greatest loss of working hours in the world, mainly as a result of the destruction of jobs and reduction of working hours in the second quarter of 2020.(p. 3 of the ILO report). Many affected are domestic workers.
In South Africa,250,000 Domestic Workers Jobs Lost in Lockdown, as reported on September 30.
The IDWF has created a Solidarity Fund to support its affiliates to alleviate some of the challenges. This month, we are going to release the second tranche of the fund, varying from USD 5000 to 10,000 to some 60 affiliates in deep crisis.
Meanwhile, we are collecting data in different regions to inform governments and policy-makers on the right thing to do to protect domestic workers, the most vulnerable workers, and their families. Check IDWF Policy Brief on Impact of COVID-19 and Policy Recommendations here >>>
