IDWF & Regional Updates
Global:
IDWF received the Sr. Jeanne Devos Award 2017 from the ACV-CSC Service Union (Belgium) at its 32nd Congress in June.
Africa / Namibia:
NDAWU Shop-stewards training began with a march to commemorate the International Domestic Workers Day
Asia:
International guidelines are one path to push for decent living and working conditions of migrants - Report on the Asia Regional Consultation on the UN Compact on Migration.
Latin America / Dominican Republic:
Campaigning for implementation of the C189, IDWF affiliate Asociación de Trabajadoras del Hogar (ATH) organized a group of 150 people on 16 June to protest and remind the government of domestic workers' rights as set on C189.
Latin America:
Welcome Adriana Paz, IDWF’s new Latin America Regional Coordinator!
Middle East & North Africa:
IDWF participated in the inter-regional tripartite expert forum on skills and migration in the South Asia – Middle East corridor on 25-26 July.
North America / USA:
Nevada becomes the 8th State to pass a Domestic Worker Bill of Rights! NDWA and SEIU worked collaboratively on this legislation which will change working conditions for domestic workers throughout the state.
Global:
Thousands of domestic workers celebrated the International Domestic Workers Day on 16 June.
Asia / India:
Domestic workers union seeks justice for a minor domestic worker who was raped and murdered. After more than a year, the fight is still on.
Caribbean/Jamaica:
Shirley Pryce is CARICOM "Woman of the Year".
Europe / Italy:
IDWF members led by President Myrtle Witbooi, spoke at the Symposium in Venice on 16 June, the International Domestic Workers Day.
Latin America / Mexico:
Collective Agreement Campaign Launched to ensure domestic workers will have minimum wage, social security and other rights.
Latin America / Nicaragua:
LGBTI Labor Inclusion convening to discuss how discrimination against the LGBTQI community is so normalized that it’s rarely identified or studied.
North America / USA:
Charlottesville, white supremacists, and NDWA response: "We are horrified by the events in Charlottesville, Virginia. Our thoughts and hearts are with the victims, their families and the residents of Charlottesville that are standing up and standing together against hate and violence."
