It was a great moment when domestic workers congregated on a single platform to raise a voice for their rights. Collective power makes a movement ideal and help to organize lots of people. Organizing domestic workers and ensuring dignity for them, SEWA Trade Unions commenced a rally on the occasion of International Domestic Workers Day. The rally was organized in New Ashok Nagar, Delhi. The objective behind the rally was to sensitize Domestic Workers and create awareness among the general public about the rights of Domestic Workers. Around 168 Domestic Workers from Delhi participated from different area’s like: Anand Vihar, Timarpur, Raghuvir Nagar, Dhallu Pura, Hasan pur and New Ashok Nagar in the great movement. The rally started from the community of domestic workers and ended in posh areas where our lots of domestic workers go for domestic works on daily basis. A role play was enacted during the rally by some SEWA Sathis to make rally innovative and informative. The rally started from Ruaab Center (SEWA) New Ashok Nagar and ended at Vasundhara Enclave. Domestic Workers were marching chanting slogans and reaching out with their voice for their rights. Slogans: “Chaar Chotiyon ka adhikaar ho Samanata ka vyvhaar ho” “Trade Unions ka yahi hai sapna Gharalu kaamgaar manch ho apna” All the domestic workers were exited and delighted to be part of the rally on Domestic Workers Day. They are calling Govt. to ratify ILO Convention 189 and also demanding to secure their future by ratifying the convention. By organizing and participating in such rally’s, domestic workers are utilizing a constructive to put across their demand for ratification of ILO Convention 189. This rally was a good initiative to cover large number of people and create awareness on domestic workers rights.
