Domestic Work, not Abuse

Violence and harassment take many forms. ILO Convention 190 on Violence and Harassment in the World of Work defines it as “a range of unacceptable behaviours and practices, or threats thereof, whether a single occurrence or repeated, that aim at, result in, or are likely to result in physical, psychological, sexual or economic harm, and includes gender-based violence and harassment”.

Abuse manifest differently depending on the context of domination and power that women reside and work under. As the domestic work sector lacks both protective legislation and policy implementation, domestic workers face many struggles, including violence and harassment.

In Domestic Workers, not Abuse campaign, IDWF is working with its affiliates to bring light to the short-term and long-term consequences of the instances of abuse while raising awareness and voices of domestic workers worldwide. Every domestic worker knows dozens of cases of violence and harassment, and we must document them, fight them, and prevent them!

Our eyes are wide open, and our voice is loud. Our profession is dignified and should be treated as such.
