Objectives
Objective
To build stronger domestic workers association that contributing to the protection and advancement of the rights and
benefits of its members and create awareness for the community to considered domestic work as profession.
Mission
By mobilizing the community, including migrant domestic workers and other stakeholders, organizations, institutions,
CBOs to assure the rights of domestic workers (DWs) and to regard its members as profession work at all level and
to get DWs basic services like education, health, legal services and others.
Vision
To see respectful and active participatory domestic workers with their own goal, objective like any other people and
that contribute their own role for the development of their people and the country for their equal and equity benefit.
History
The majority of Mulu Tesfa (literal meaning’s “full hope Change-seek”) domestic workers Association members, like other domestic workers are employed in private homes rather than firms or enterprises, they can be invisible as workers and isolated from others in the sector. They are dependent on the good or bad will of their employer.
However, Mulu Tesfa domestic workers Association is found at Debre Markos town , Amhara regional state of Ethiopia which was established in March 2010 with 10 domestic workers. It has legal certificate. The association also has ground rule. In 2011 the numbers of domestic workers association increase from 10 to 55. The monthly fee of the member is 5.00 ETH birr. Currently the association has 5,606.00 ET birr at Bank.
However, ten out of the fifty-five per time domestic workers engaged in income generating activities (IGA), the association got 20,000.00 ETH birr from CVM for IGA purpose. The IGA was backing of Injera ( local pan cake”). In 2011 the IGA shifted from backing of “Injera” to production of vegetables. In 2015 the IGA stopped. In 2016 the members of domestic workers start the IGA again.
