History
BODAU was founded in December 15, 2018 through the support of Botswana Federation of Trade Unions (BFTU) and a Consultant Mr Opelo Baleseng (now BDOAU Contact Person appointed by NEC).
A total of 200 domestic workers attended the first meeting termed Domestic Workers Awareness Program. Such workshop was facilitated by trade union veteran Mr Edward Tswaipe, BFTU Secretary General Mr Thusang Butale and Emmanuel Mosedise as the Chief Organizer. This activity brought positive results as more than 150 domestic workers joined the union at infancy stage due to the challenges they described as disheartening.
Recruitment of Domestic Workers continued while awaiting registration. Domestic Workers welcomed the organization but feared to join citing intimidation from their employers, something that the union intends to cure.
BODAU underwent the registration process which took almost 11 months to be completed. The union was dully registered on the 2nd December 2019 and given its Registration Certificate under number: TUC…/19.
