MEXICO -

On 18-19 February, on behalf of the Jamaica Household Workers Association (JHWA), Shirley Pryce, participated in the Regional Exchange of Domestic Workers Experiences: C189 & Social Security in Mexico City.

This exchange had as an objective to share successful experiences and inputs from  the region for the construction of a political platform on social security for domestic workers in Mexico. Over 30 domestic workers from Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Jamaica and Uruguay discussed strategies on social security legislation and ratification of C189 in the region.

With this platform domestic workers in Mexico hope to achieve mandatory social security based on good practices and lessons learned.

The exchange was organized in joint partnership of IDWF Affiliate the Sindicato Nacional de Trabajadoras y Trabajadores del Hogar (SINACTRAHO); the Centro de Apoyo y Capacitación para Empleadas del Hogar (CACEH), the Institute of Leadership Simone de Beauvoir (ILSB) and Women in Informal Employment: Globalizing and Organizing (WIEGO).
