FENATRAD and IDWF organize workshop for the implementation of C 189


The National Federation of Domestic Workers (FENATRAD) and the International Federation of Domestic Workers (IDWF) held, from Friday to Sunday (23, 24 and 25), the National Workshop of the Federation. The event aimed to define new guidelines for the category. The meeting took place at the Florestã Fernandes National School (MST), in the city of Guararema (SP) and was supported by Solidarity Centre.

The event was opened on Friday, August 23, by Louisa Acciari, IDWF representative in Latin America. On Sunday, August 25, Jana Silverman, representative of the Solidarity Centre in Brazil, coordinated the round table on Labour Union Organization.

The meeting discussed the intensification of the campaign with the National Association of Labour Justice Magistrates (Anamatra), the Public Prosecution Service and the Federal Public Defender's Office to implement ILO Convention 189 in the country.

In addition, it was decided that the legal unions of the category will intensify actions regarding the situation of daily workers (diaristas); those who work for one or two days in a row for more than two years in the same residence.

The meeting also debated a national campaign against MEIs (Individual Microenterprises). A survey will be launched for domestic workers who are formalized and they will be informed that those who join the MEI will not be entitled to the 13th month of salary, paid annual leave, fund of guarantee for time of service or unemployment benefits.

There will be a campaign to combat discrimination in the workplace, whether on the grounds of racism or sexual orientation. Domestic workers will also be told how to protect themselves against bullying and sexual harassment in the workplace.

According to Luiza Batista, FENATRAD's president, “these were two very productive days for our category. We have set important guidelines for our fight for the rights of domestic workers. ”
