GENEVA, SWITZERLAND -

On Aug 30, Myrtle Witbooi, President of the IDWF speaks at the 27th World Congress of the The International Union of Food, Agricultural, Hotel, Restaurant, Catering, Tobacco and Allied Workers' Associations (IUF).

She speaks of the history of the domestic workers’ movement from 2006. 24 countries have now ratified the ILO domestic workers’ convention (C189). The struggle now is to get a decent wage for domestic workers, enshrined in national laws. “Our work makes all work possible,” she says — and explains the importance of the work domestic workers do.

Myrtle also takes the opportunity to thank Ron Oswald, IUF General Secretary and Barbro Budin, IUF Gender Equality and Projects Officer for their long-term support.
