SWITZERLAND -

On Feb 21, the canton of Geneva approved regularization of 590 undocumented migrant workers, among them many domestic workers. They call it "operation Papyrus". 200 cases are still pending and they are continuing the process.

The two IDWF affiliates, UNIA and the Geneva based union SIT, were part of a broad alliance which has been fighting for over 15 years to achieve this goal.

It is not a new law but applying existing law and the applicants have to meet certain criteria. However, because of the strong movement, Geneva is in the forefront of Switzerland to apply it in favour of the undocumented migrant workers. Congratulations!
