DOMINICAN REPUBLIC -

Campaigning for implementation of C189 In Dominican Republic, IDWF affiliate Asociación de Trabajadoras del Hogar (ATH), organized a group of 150 people on 16 June to protest and remind the government of domestic workers rights as set on C189.

Since ratification of C189 in Dominican Republic, domestic worker’s conditions have not improved, and many are still not entitled to minimum wage, have no social security and/or other labour protections like disability, overtime or maternity leave.

The meeting convened by ATH at the doors of the Ministry of Labour ended with a dialogue with government officials who reiterated to Victoria García, President of ATH, that progress and studies are being done to make sure domestic workers are included to the social security scheme. In addition, ATH was invited by the Ministry of Women to work together in achieving gender equality for the sector.
