SINGAPORE -

HOME, an NGO supporting domestic workers in Singapore, has been publishing a online newsletter, MyVoice is the English issue and Suaraku is the Bahasa Indonesian.

According to Bridget Tan, president and founder of HOME, internet communication has been an effective way for domestic workers to exchange views and information in Singapore.

Its facebook groups have got over 10,000 domestic workers connected. The facebook group "HOME GABRIELA" has got 9,000 Filipino domestic workers while "HOME KARTINI" has got nearly 2,000 Indonesians up currently. As 90% of the 200,000 domestic workers have no day-offs, this kind of communication is extremely important.

With the struggle of domestic workers and advocacy group, in May 2012, the Ministry of Manpower finally approved a weekly day off for domestic workers effective January 2013.
