EUROPE -Several IDWF leaders from the ExCo, staff, and affiliates are participating now in the International Labour Conference (ILC 2017: June 2 to 17) discussions on labour migration, governance, and fair recruitment, ensuring the realities and needs of migrant domestic workers are addressed. Of particular concern are undocumented migrant workers, among them many domestic workers.

They are criminalized, instead of protecting their workers’ rights and ensuring basic human rights. Even in countries where undocumented migrant workers are enjoying the same rights as local workers, they cannot exercise their rights because of fear of deportation. The workers’ group of the Committee on labour migration addressed this concern in the negotiations with employers and governments.

Carmen Britez, at ILC 2017 speaks about mobile application for migrant workers “Migración y Trabajo Doméstico” developed by the ILO together with the Unión Personal Auxiliar de Casas Particulares (U.P.A.C.P.), Ministry of Labour and groups of migrant domestic workers in Argentina. Relevant for any domestic worker in the region. Download available on Google Play, more information: migracion-y-trabajo-domestico
