India: Petition call to ensure justice for human and labour rights violations against Nepali domestic workers by Saudi diplomat
by IDWFED published Sep 15, 2015 last modified Nov 13, 2015 02:50 PM — filed under:
The recent rescue of two Nepali domestic workers from the residence of a Saudi diplomat has again highlighted the human rights abuse and labour rights violation domestic workers face. In light of the gruesome sexual and physical violence reported in the matter, it is crucial that the diplomat and other perpetrators be investigated and prosecuted. The diplomatic immunity being used to shield the diplomat, should not be extended in light of the grave offences committed- the spirit of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, 1961, the instrument granting immunity, goes against such condonation. The Indian government must also bring a statutory framework for domestic workers to curb such abuse.
